I haven’t been to college before or… ever, but I did have a passion for drawing and animation. I come from a poor family that wasn’t able to support me. I got free haircuts from the barber when I drew new hairstyles for him. I rode the trains and sold drinks and snacks. </div>

I took Fine Arts classes at night. When I was sixteen, I dropped out and tried to join the army, but wasn’t old enough. Instead of going back to school, I became a Red Cross Ambulance Driver. In my spare time, which was about… always, I would draw on my ambulance.</div>

I was ready to get into the animation industry, not the Jell-O Company that my dad wanted me to get into. I got a job at the Kansas Slide Show Company and that was when I originally got into animation. I would be drawing picture after picture, millions if necessary, just to have somebody take a step.</div>

Think about what I said before. If I were to have succeeded in the first thing I’ve ever done, then I may not have tried harder. I may not have made Mickey or have Walt Disney Pictures. After all, all of your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.</div>

Lakshmi Bai was married at the age of 14 to Raja Gangadhar Rao, the Maharaja of Jhansi. However destiny was cruel to her. When she was only 18, her husband and only son died. Their tragic deaths made her even stronger to face any circumstances. She took charge of Jhansi and declared herself the Queen of Jhansi. The British took advantage of the death of Raja Gangadhar Rao and rejected Rani’s claim to be the queen.</div>

Soon the British ruler announced Rs 60,000 (annual pension) for Rani and also ordered her to leave the Jhansi fort. Rani felt humiliated. She was like a silent volcano before eruption. She was a woman of self-respect and so didn’t give up. Instead she planned to free the country from the British.</div>

Rani not only trained her men for a historic war but also included the women and encouraged them to participate in the freedom movement. She strengthened the defences of Jhansi and they fought like fierce lions out for revenge. The British attacked Jhansi and Rani Lakshmi Bai along with her faithful warriors fought fiercely and decided not to give up until their own bodies were burnt to ashes.</div>

With a panic-stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach. Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.</div>

The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but it landed on another lady in the group. Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama. The waiter rushed forward to their rescue. In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.</div>

Generally we prefer to be around people who think and act like us or who are to our liking. But if we find them different from us, we tend to prejudge them and develop certain stereotypical opinions about them. These prejudices can often lead to unjustified emotional and physical injury to them.</div>

The principle ‘survival of the fittest’ makes competition as the yardstick for thriving in the world. There is too much that is competitive about our attitude that causes us to always view certain qualities as ‘better than’ or ‘less than’ in relation to others. Consequently we develop an attitude of antagonism towards them. </div>

Audre Lorde reminds us, “In our work and in our living, we must recognize that difference is a reason for celebration and growth, rather than a reason for destruction.” The world would be a better place to live in if we could but stand for and live in solidarity, friendship, interdependence, and complementarity. Instead of spending time focusing on where we differ and what we disagree about, we need to focus on the positives! We can consciously seek and define strategies to celebrate our differences by acknowledging, respecting and appreciating the other.</div>
