President Lincoln was known the world over for his courteous and hospitable nature. He never discriminated between people. Once, while strolling with an officer, he met a black beggar who greeted him respectfully. The president, in turn, tipped his hat to the beggar.

The official asked Lincoln in surprise, “Why did you tip your hat to the uncouth beggar?” To this, the President replied with a smile, “I have never wanted anyone to be more courteous than I am.”
