One of life’s simplest pleasures is having a nice cup of tea! Relaxing with tea rejuvenates the spirit and smoothes out the ruffled moments of a hectic day. Living a contented life is like that – like having a cup of tea!

Just like tea, life offers much happiness and contentment if it contains the right mix of ingredients. More sugar and less milk or vice versa can lead to an unpleasant taste. Life has to be a proper mix of different ingredients like interpersonal relationships, health, career, finance, spirituality etc. The blend is distinctive yet compatible. If you simply juggle these ingredients instead of balancing them, you are more likely to feel frustrated.

To enjoy your tea, you must drink it slowly, sip by sip. So it is with life. To enjoy the very essence of life you have to be slow on it. Today people so blindly rush towards their destinations that they simply fail to enjoy the journey, missing along the way the beautiful things that life has to offer. When you pace yourself adequately, consciously living in the moment, you get to savour the journey. Drinking your tea hastily might end up burning your mouth! So does living a fast-paced life – it drains your spirit.

You don’t enjoy your tea if you are excessively concerned about the cup and saucer you are drinking it from. They are only holding the tea. Similarly any excessive concern about the material things of life – finance, house, car, gadgets, etc. – deprives you of the joy that comes from cherishing the simplicity of life. Choosing a costly cup and saucer doesn’t improve the flavour of your tea. Yet, unlike the cup of tea, the tea of life is to be self-prepared and well-prepared. It takes a lot of personal effort on your part, knowing your priorities and standing by your beliefs. At the end of the day, the only question that matters is: what kind of tea do you fill your cup of life with?
