When Pastor Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good’, but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and values.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot anti-abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have terrorised the world and called the victims terrorists.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have abused power and called it politics.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have coveted our neighbour’s possessions and called it ambition.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!”</div>

There was a young woman who took great pride in the growth and care of the flowers in her flower garden.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
One day while looking through a flower catalogue she often ordered from, a picture of a plant immediately caught her eye. She had never seen blooms on a flower like that before, and she immediately ordered it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
When it arrived, she already had a place prepared to plant it. She planted it at the base of a stone wall at the back of her yard. It grew vigorously, with beautiful green leaves all over it, but there were no blooms. Day after day she continued to cultivate it, water it and feed it. But, it was to no avail.<br />
One morning weeks later, as she stood before the vine, she contemplated how disappointed she was that her plant had not bloomed. She was giving considerable thought to cutting it down and planting something else in its place.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
It was at this point that her invalid neighbour, whose lot joined hers, called over to her. “Thank you so much! You can’t imagine how much I have enjoyed the blooms of that vine you planted.” The young woman walked through the gate into her neighbour’s yard, and sure enough, she saw that on the other side of the wall the vine was filled with blooms.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
There were indeed the most beautiful blooms she had ever seen. The vine had crept through the crevices and it had not flowered on her side of the fence, it had flowered luxuriantly on the other side.<br />
Just because you cannot see the good result of your labour does not mean that it bore no fruit. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. </b>What is the difference between ‘like’ and ‘love’? If you like a flower you’ll pick it; but if you love a flower, you’ll water it every day.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>2. </b>Sometimes you have to shut up, swallow your pride and accept that you are wrong. It is not giving up. It is called growing up.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>3. </b>Just because you miss someone doesn’t mean you need them back in your life. Missing is just a part of moving on.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>4. </b>Never say, “That won’t happen to me.” Life has a funny way of proving us wrong.<br />
No matter how bad you think your life is, wake up each day and be thankful for what you have. Someone somewhere is fighting just to survive. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>5. </b>While you’re busy looking for the perfect person, you’ll probably miss the imperfect person who could make you perfectly happy. Someone will always be prettier. Someone will always be smarter. Someone will always be younger. But they will never be you.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>6. </b>When you make a commitment you build hope. When you keep it you build trust. So don’t just say it, show it. Don’t just promise it, prove it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>7. </b>If you expect the world to be fair with you because you are fair, you’re fooling yourself. That’s like expecting the lion not to eat you because you didn’t eat him. </div>
